BlackSun Announces Secure Computer Backup service called BackupStuff.ca
Posted by Blacksun Steve on 18 June 2015 03:25 PM

June 18 2015 (Saskatoon) -  BlackSun Inc, a Canadian web hosting company, has announced that it has launched a new computer backup service for professionals under a new micro-brand called “BackupStuff”.  The BackupStuff service was created as a means to address the off-premise, secure backup needs of several of BlackSun’s Canadian client base.  The Canadian based encrypted backup system, along with BlackSun's other micro-brands, boast the promise of stronger data security and reliability.  The new product offering is a great alternative over other international backup systems (that may be subject to obscure, international laws).

“We are excited to offer clients an easy to use computer data backup solution",  says BlackSun CEO Steve Rogoschewsky.  “We have partnered with Code42’s ‘Crashplan' service.  Users can sign up for the trial offer and have instant access to backup some or all of their PC or Mac computers in their office.    Geographically speaking, we think that Saskatoon is a great place to put your data."

The data backup service allows both individual home users and business owners to backup their data directly to BlackSun’s data centers.   BlackSun technicians can also install a local backup server on the business premise to offer faster data recovery.   The local server will also securely move the data to the BackupStuff service in Saskatoon.   The data is not only protected in transit by military grade encryption, but also while the data is at rest.  BlackSun has recently upgraded its network security hardware in anticipation of the launch of its new data management services.

The “BackupStuff" brand is the fifth release of "stuff" in BlackSun's "Stuff we do!" specialty products and services division.  The other "Stuff" microsites include:

April 30 2015 (Kamloops, British Columbia) -   (Marketwired via COMTEX) -  iTel Networks Inc., one of Canada's largest IP voice networks, has recently partnered with BlackSun Inc. ("BlackSun"); and expanded their reach into Saskatchewan markets. Now, iTel Networks is able to service even more businesses with important services such as Fiber Optic Internet and MPLS Networks. Services that are now, more important than ever for businesses who want to expand and stay ahead of the competition.

iTel Networks Partnered with BlackSun in Saskatoon - a high-performance web hosting and data management company that combines their extensive marketing and promotional knowledge base with sophisticated and modern equipment to find the perfect fit for a company's website needs. Already one of Canada's largest IP voice networks, this move has expanded iTel Networks' capability to serve a growing number of organizations that are finding home in Saskatchewan. Steve Rogoschewsky, CEO of BlackSun Inc. (blacksun.ca), "is very happy with the speed and reliability of the iTel service to date" and feels that "once one of our clients get service from us, it also makes sense to get (iTel's) network as it results in both performance increases and cost savings for their organization." To excel in today's marketplace, it is more important than ever for companies to utilize the most advanced and dependable communication technologies that are available, if they want to see their business grow and keep ahead of the competition. According to Dan Rink, C.O.O of iTel Networks Inc (itel.com), iTel continues to grow and expand its network through partnerships with other major players in the industry - such as BlackSun. This allows iTel to offer both high-speed fiber optic internet and multiprotocol label switching (MPLS) networking services, making doing business more efficient and effective. "Fiber optic internet and MPLS are the wave of the future, and smart business owners should be investing in both technologies to streamline communications, improve performance and reduce costs," states Rink.

iTel prides itself not only on unprecedented support for their clientele, but also the ability to reach and merge the networks of companies with multiple locations under one network - including offices in rural areas. This is something that the majority of organizations are not able to offer at this time. iTel's partnership with BlackSun has taken them one step further to being able to merge company networks in every city in Canada. BlackSun's clientele can be found throughout Canada, with a strong presence particularly in Eastern Canada. Industry experts agree that high-speed fiber optic internet is the only solution to achieve the fastest and most reliable data transport network. High bandwidth uploads and downloads can be completed in very little time; at incredible high speeds. Once viewed as too expensive and sophisticated for all but the largest corporations and government agencies, fiber optic internet is now the only choice for businesses, large or small, that demands performance, adaptability, and a safe and secure connection at an affordable price.

BlackSun also has two leading edge data centers located in Saskatoon that allow your data to be simultaneously linked and backed up, alive and online at all times. How do they manage this? Secure Fibre Optic internet and MPLS connections. MPLS, or multiprotocol label switching, combines data and voice networking in a manner that allows for the proper designation of resources for each application, resulting in improved performance, smoother operation and increased response time. Whether it is data downloads or simple voice calls, by routing them using MPLS-based services, lag time is reduced as is "resource hogging" of any one service. For businesses that roll out voice and video, MPLS networking services can support QoS. Depending on the network configuration and precise combination of applications, MPLS can be significantly less expensive to use than ATM and frame relay data services.

"For modern companies, it is vital to have a network that is reliable and functions at high speed with low latency. Businesses need to be able to connect with their customers in a quick and seamless manner. Fiber optic internet and MPLS networking services are the most highly developed communication technologies available. MPLS has taken over from traditional WAN services as companies turn to the latest technologies to avoid being left behind. Fiber optics have revolutionized the way we communicate and represent a huge technological advancement. I believe fiber optic internet and MPLS are the best communications solution available, and will remain so for the foreseeable future. Companies should feel secure in investing in them," says Rink.

BlackSun Announces Secure File Sharing Service called FileStuff.ca
Posted by Blacksun Steve on 28 October 2014 04:47 PM

October 28 2014 (Saskatoon) -  BlackSun Inc, a Canadian web hosting company, has announced that it has launched a new file sharing service for professionals under a new micro-brand called "FileStuff.ca".  FileStuff.ca is a response to several of Blacksun's Web Hosting and Data storage clients who communicated concern about the security and privacy levels of free file sharing companies.  The FileStuff.ca service offers users a safe and secure environment to easily upload files and share them with colleagues.  The Canadian based file sharing system, along with BlackSun's other micro-brands, boast the promise of stronger data security and reliability.  The new product offering is a great alternative over free-based file cloud storage systems (that may be subject to obscure, international laws).

"File and picture sharing starts out innocently enough, until corporate documents end up on international, unsecure servers",  says BlackSun CEO Steve Rogoschewsky.  "When I hear of people storing some of their data on a 'cloud' server,  I always ask what city or country it may reside in?  I then ask them basic security questions like is the data being encrypted?  Often times it is followed by a blank look.  Therefore, we created FileStuff.ca for individuals and corporations that are concerned about the safety of their information."

Other major data file and storage companies in North America have recently come under increased scrutiny as a result of famous whistle-blowers in the industry.  This has encouraged users to move away from unsecure "free" solutions.  BlackSun has recently upgraded its network connections in anticipation of the launch of its new Canadian services.

The "FileStuff.ca" brand is the fourth release of "stuff" in BlackSun's "Stuff we do" specialty products and services division.  The other "Stuff" microsites include:

BlackSun responds to BashBug/Shellshock threat by Actively Dropping bad traffic
Posted by Blacksun Steve on 30 September 2014 03:27 PM

September 30 2014 (Saskatoon) -  BlackSun Inc, a Canadian web hosting company, has released an announcement in response to the internet's latest security threat known as the "BashBug/ShellShock" linux vulnerability.    The internet community heeded warnings earlier this week about the newly discovered vulnerability in GNU Bash, identified by the Common Vulnerabity Exposure dictionary as CVE-2014-6271.  The bug affords the attacker the ability to execute arbitrary commands which allow the attacker to take control over the target environment on systems that have linux operating based environments.

BlackSun recently upgraded its network gear to include devices that operate at the edge of its internet connections to monitor incoming and outgoing traffic for "bad" packets.  The edge security devices drop malicious data the attempts to get into the network, thus protecting clients on the inside of BlackSun's data center.   Ongoing common vulnerability "solution signatures" are automatically downloaded and loaded into the system as they are identified.

"Our security staff has always taken our client's data seriously. We were happy to say that we have been blocking thousands of vulnerabilities since early 2014," says Steve Rogoschewsky, CEO of BlackSun Inc. "Our team has been monitoring the shellshock vulnerability as the news was breaking last week.  The report shows a definite increasing trend in the attack volume over the last 24 hours.   We suspect that smaller data hosting companies are not proactively doing similar filtering will be at serious risk in the future."

Rogoschewsky added that any of BlackSun's dedicated or web hosting customers can request a custom attack report by sending an email to tech@blacksun.ca

BlackSun has also released a smaple of the report and other information about the seriousness of this issue on its partner website at http://www.networkstuff.ca
